Actually, Phuket is barely an island at all, as it is in fact connected to the mainland by Sarasin Bridge which is only about 500 meters (1600 ft) long! At the other end of the bridge, on the mainland, is the province of Phang Nga and the next city along the coast eastwards is Krabi.
